Since you already compiled PHP from scratch, you could just recompile it with the --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql option.

and one more thing i was able to see the check_wurfl.php with textbox and submit button with sony ercison stuff but ofcourse it dint display the informationa about the device and when i clicked submit nothing happens.

I am using php 5.3.2
